FEMA has released a summary of Mississippi expenditures from Aug. 29, 2005 through May 1, 2009. The numbers are staggering, and include $1.3 billion in Individual Assistance and more than $2.8 billion in various Public Assistance. One of the uses they cite for the public assistance funding was 46 million cubic yards of debris removal, by their calculations, that’s a football field stacked approximately 4.9 miles high.
