The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a report outlining different ways that coastal managers of all levels can help adapt to on-going climate change. It focuses on nine general goals:

  1. Maintain/restore wetlands
  2. Maintain sediment transport
  3. Preserve coastal land/development (including infrastructure)
  4. Maintain shorelines utilizing “soft” measures
  5. Maintain shorelines utilizing “hard” measures
  6. Invasive species management
  7. Preserve habitat for vulnerable species
  8. Maintain water quality
  9. Maintain water availability

For each goal the report includes a table showing the benefits and challenges of each described adaptive action. While we haven’t had a chance to read through the whole paper yet, it appears to be concise and useful.
