A new assessment of the “My Safe Flordia Home” program found that while there was room for improvement, the program saved more than it cost. More precisely, it found that each dollar spent in the program reduced risk by $1.50.
Perhaps most relevant for those working in coastal communities in a time of limited resources, the assessment found that targeting the right properties could greatly increase the programs efficiency: up to a ratio of $2.75 per dollar in mitigation.
The My Safe Florida Home program is a mitigation program operated by the Florida Department of Financial Services that helps the general public hurricane (wind) mitigation. By promoting retrofitting and education through an inspection program and public outreach campaign, the program aims to help Floridians better protect their property and save money on insurance premiums.
