The Sun Herald is reporting that State Farm will offer discounts of up to 30% to policyholders who strengthen their homes against wind damage. From that short article:
Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said Tuesday that he has approved State Farm’s plan to offer the mitigation discounts. They would apply to new construction and retrofits to older homes. The discounts follow the mitigation plan recently completed for the Insurance Department.
Chaney said 80 percent of a homeowner’s premium for State Farm insurance covers wind, so a 30 percent discount on a $1,000 premium would be $240.
Not a bad time to consider retrofitting existing structures.
